Hello kruch and thank you so much for your fantastic app and all the work you invested to improve, extend and support it !

I'm quite ashamed to ask this as I imagine it should probably be a huge amount of work, but as you've already done the work for so many other platforms, would you consider to port TrekBuddy to Garmin devices like Garmin Epix Watch using the Connect IQ SDK ?

It seems that the language used is very similar with Java so maybe it would be possible to port a stripped down version of TrekBuddy and it would just be the ultimate device/app for trekking Cool

I would personally love to have TrekBuddy inside a GPS/Glonass, high autonomy, waterproof watch Very Happy

Agreed but still by far not as nice as TrekBuddy ... both Ferrari and Trabant have 4 wheels Wink
I think that epix would be quite the ultimate device for trekkers but with TrekBuddy it would have the ultimate app to run inside Rolling Eyes

There is a lot of work to port app. Are you sure that Epix will be so common like ie mobiles ? Smile

I'm aware that epix watch and all the future garmin watches will never be as common as mobiles. It definitely is a "niche market" but it seems so well fitted for TrekBuddy that as I said in my first post "I'm quite ashamed to ask it" ... but also I wouldn't forgive myself not to Rolling Eyes

Nowadays there are a lot of apps for Android and other high end phones (yet TrekBuddy is still my favourite one Very Happy ), the basic Java phones are declining and TrekBuddy was designed and optimized to work with small amount of resources and small screen resolution, so the smart outdoor gps watches segment could be a new opportunity to shine Cool

Of course I'm aware that would mean a lot of work, yet just imagine how coooool this would be ... but frankly I don't really expect a positive answer from Kruch, just dreaming that maybe if he is also struck by the wooow effect he could have a look and see that maybe, maybe it's a cool challenge Wink

Smart toys aren't so new for TB, if you assume ie Motorola watch.
Second, there are a lot of nowadays toys with screens like smart TV, so choosing direction isn't easy Smile
I know what you would, years ago idea of using simple phone for gps trips was our dream. As you know, realized dream.
But to be exact, for Epix you have some ready options ... now Smile

TB runs on several platforms, but they have one thing common - Java (except WP 8.1). So it was not really a porting, but rather a customization for each platform.

Garmin is, unfortunately, quite different world (language, runtime, etc) Sad

Ad WP 8.1: this port is special, but most work - transformation from Java to C# - was done by someone else (XMLVM project). And if Android support in WM10 will be as good as in BB10, I will drop "native" Windows port in favour of WM/Android customized build, just like I have done for BB10/Android, in order to reduce maintenance overhead.

Hi Kruch, thank you for your detailed answer, so I will wait for a good android watch to have TrekBuddy to my wrist Wink
And once again thank you so much for all the great work you've done Cool
