2009-08-01

Version 1.5 of TrekBuddy Atlas Creator is now available.

It can be downloaded at the following url: https://sourceforge.net/projects/trekbuddyatlasc/files/

NOTES
=====

It has been possible to release this version of TrekBuddy Atlas Creator as the result of the great work made by the developer Robert (mobrob). He has put a lot effort into this project and have continued the work where I stopped. I will from now on mainly act as a release manager for this project.

Regards
Moller

+ = Additions since previous version
! = Bug fixes since previous version
~ = Changes since previous version

Ver: 1.5 ( 2009-08-01 )
================

+ Flexible atlases containing different areas of multiple map sources are possible
+ New atlas output format: AndNav - Android Navigation System
+ Atlas download can be paused/resumed interactively
+ Proxy settings rewritten - now system/Java wide or application settings can be
used alternatively to the user defined proxy
+ New regional map sources (Poland): ump.waw.pl and docelu.pl

~ Java requirement has changed: Now at least Java 1.6 is required!
~ Profile saving updated to new atlas structure
~ Fullscreen mode is currently unavailable
http://www.andnav.org
~ Google Maps, Earth, Mapmaker, Maps China url updated
~ Settings.xml format has changed
~ Max zoom for Cycloatlas changed from 14 to 15
~ Removed OpenArialMap map source
~ Panels on the left can be collapsed to save space

! Editing the atlas content while map creation in progress resulted in
unusable/abnormal atlases (see bug #2819613)

Ver: 1.1 ( 2009-05-13 )
================

+ New output format: JPEG with different quality levels
+ added map source Microsoft Maps China (Ditu)

Ver: 1.0 ( 2009-04-10 )
================

+ Reload current map view by pressing "F5"
+ First experimental implementation of color reducing implemented (requires
additional library "Java Advanced Imaging": https://jai.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html
Download the library and place the Jar[s] in the same directory as TrekBuddyAtlasCreator
+ Experimental: Color reduced (<16) png files are saved using an own implementation
that writes real 4 bit PNG files (instead to the default Java one that only creates
8 bit or true color files)
+ added map source OSM hiking: http://opentiles.com/nop/
+ added map source OpenArialMap

~ Maximum map size reduced to 32767 (1 pixel less)
~ Atlas output format can now be specified: Tared or untared atlas. The created atlas
is always created in the folder "atlases" - the folder "atlasestared" is no longer used.
~ "ozi" / "tac_tmp" directory no longer used. Instead one temporary tar file per map
layer is created (and later deleted) in the default system temp directory

~ Exceptions that occur while downloading/creating an atlas are now displayed
in an dialog showing detailed information about the system and the exception
~ Updated Google Maps url & removed "Galileo" appendix
~ New experimental implementation for creating tile of custom size.
Disdvantage: Much slower that the algorithm before
Advantage: Only constant memory needed (approx. less than 10 MB)
~ Using custom tile size now does not concert the tiles to png format.
Instead the format used by the maps source is used.

Ver: 0.9.5
=======

+ Detailed log files can be created by providing a configuration file log4j.xml (see README.txt for details).

I like your atlas tool as well Smile

But there's one important feature I'm missing: Like with TB-Cutter I need to be able to select the color depth (4 bpp is sufficient for maps). So tars would have only half of the current size!

Can you implement this?

Good point.

I googled around a bit on internet and found some interesting information about it. It looks like it is doable so, i will add it to the To-Do list.

First check if your phone supports 4bpp graphics directly, most of them uses 8bpp or 16bpp. You can have small files, but a lot of conversions in phone.

It's K750i like yours... I don't know if the K750i has to convert the 4bpp to something else or where to get this info. However the 4bpp tiles compressed by TB Cutter are working ok for me on K750i. So I think this would be a useful feature for other people as well.

Btw: Can Trekbuddy show if tiles have to be converted by the phone and maybe even show the conversion time of the active tile?

Thank you! Very Happy

K750i have 8 & 16 bpp support, no 4 bpp.

But anyway there is the possibility to save space on memory card if saved in 4bpp.

I will give it a try. As far as i can see, it looks like it is not that hard to implement either.

After a little more extensive testing i have seen that the tared atlases is not always created as they should.

It looks like if, there are many tiles in an atlas layer, then the tared version of this atlas is totally messed up.

So for the moment is the recomendation:

1: Not use the tared version af atlas at all.

2: Or, first manually check the created atlas by open the tared layers and manually check that every tile is present.

My general recomendation is to NOT use the tared atlases at all at the moment.

I will try to fix this issue asap.

It seems to me the tar files are created asynchronous by 7-zip (while the atlas creator continues its work). Maybe this can cause a problem.

Yes i have seen that too, and I have not figured out any good solution for that yet.

Instead I think that I will try to skip the external program in next version and implement the TAR functionality in pure Java code. I had a look at the TAR standard today and it does not seem to be that hard to implement.

Wonderful! I've been waiting for a graphical atlas builder..but I have some problems! I gave it a try with no success to obtain the correct map (i don't obtain the map showed in green, but a map shifted a lot).

The coordinates are:
Lat Max: 46.15164
Lat Min: 44.95795
Long Max: 10.16031
Long Min: 8.11796
Zoom: 9-10

When I click on Create Atlas I don't obtain the selected area.

ps. Can you add 512x512 tiles please?
Anyway i hope to see this app growing! Thanks!

I will take a look at that as soon as possible.

Bigger tiles are in the plan for a future release.
