so i downloaded the German map with Googleak at the zoom of 14, which gave me ~50.000 tiles. But if i try to load it in trekbuddy it says the map is too big. Would it work if i save it as an atlas with several small pieces of the big map? and how could i do that easily?

You can set in googleak the map size in tiles (1 tile=256x256 pxl). Change the "Map size" parameter from 0x0(unlimited) to 100x100 or less, you'll get ~9 maps instead of one big one.
