Yes, it's good to have a clean screen in compass mode and CMS mode with not a lot annoying icons, but this is something maybe not too hard to implement and which could be useful to have a interesting help to find quickly action icons position.

My wish, for compass and CMS mode, is to use the bottom right position of the screen with long press (currently not use) for display the action icons as long as the position is pressed added with 1 or 2 secs.
It should be a good help for new users or when icons position are changing because screen rotation.

No problem for switching screen mode with short press, as usual. Smile

Screenshots for better visual explanation ...
It's not perfect but could be a good simple starting point ! For users who dont want icons, nothing is changing because using only long press in the bottom right corner ...
Bad idea ? Shocked

Not bad, but ... Smile
This way some app state indicators are not visible on all screens the same way, ie backlight or screenlock.
Now we have two message indicators for it, but they are only visible for a while, when function was used (are not visible as current state indicators, without user action). Just means icons can be used for both state and function, if they are visible at all.
I don't see any reason why it should work different way on map screen and others ... ? Smile

Yes, and now, with lot's of various screen size, when rotate function of the phone is used, the position of action icons is not easy to find for new users ...
I think that getting possibility to show them when we want could be a good help !
More, for exemple in CMS mode, a wrong tap on the screen not at the good position can make unwanted jump wpts ... etc ... Show quickly action icons could prevent this. Wink

It is longer story than you think:-)
Try ie in B2710 to lock screen in comapss mode. What you see ? Function is available, works, but there is no indication. Indicator exist, but on other screen. You can see it if you stop using function.
On touchscreens models same problem exists, but there is one more reason to solve it Smile

I like my B2710 and i keep it always in my bag (rescue) Smile
But it seems that touch screens are the future ... Wink

Yep, there is no reason to touch screen instead of keyboard in some situations.
But indicator problem seems common Smile

Map screen is different from compass and cms, because you can scroll it to get to "information" hidden by actions icons. It is kind of annoying on others. Or maybe I'm just used to it too much.

Try for yourself: http://www.trekbuddy.net/dev/2016-01-30/trekbuddy.apk (works if you have configured autohiding of action icons).

Hi Kruch, thanks for test file .apk.
Yes, of course, i'm agree with you : action icons are annoying in Compass screen and CMS screen when displayed like that ...
-> This the reason why my wish only for compass and CMS screens is to get action icons visible when long press on the bottom right corner as long as it's pressed +1 or 2 secs persistent (not with each touch of the screen)
Short press is keeping for switch screens mode.
Maybe it's more difficult to implement ? Confused

Solved in part Smile
On all screens functions controlled by zoom and icon bar works, doesn't matter what is visible on screen or not.
Second, controls (included in zoom, icon bar) are settable in settings as always visible, visible for a while or not visible.
Not visible option works well on all of screens, visible for a while works in new app version, but always doesn't.
To be exact, always option follows settings on map screen, in part on compass (for zooms) and never on cms Smile
Jumping icons are not too easy for app beginners.
@boowoo
It can make sense if icons will work on all screens the same way ...
Group icons in Android can be a sample.

Hi Ranger, it's not exactly what i mean ...
A long press on bottom right corner (need to be considered as an additional function) should be used for adding a quick control position of action icons ... nothing more ...
Result is nothing anoying for compass and CMS screen comprehension when used as usual Wink
