It depends... you could create simplifed .map file if you knew coordinates of a point in the four "corner" tiles. |

Hi,
I succeeded in creating an Atlas mixed of Google sat and map and German TOP 50.
What I learned is:
- the new googleak is really great. It even intercepts the new Google check when you download too much sat
- I forgot to adapt the tile size and bpp. Does anybody know whether a Nokia E61 works effectivelyy with 4bpp
- checking TAR is not really required as you have to redo it anyway for an atlas
- The googleak 1st level directory naming can be changed to something more meaningful like e.g. sat16 in my case
- The 2 level structure of the atlas is really a must, so I created sat, road and topo as 1st level and then the different resolutions as 2nd
- Re naming remember the tar file and its included *.map needs to have the name of the folder where it resides
- It is a good idea to put the directory structure in a folder inside of the maps directory in the phone
- To increase performance I created a tmi file for every map and the atlas. Like described at the top of this post you create the atlas tar & tmi file 1st, then all the map ones, then you delete the *.map files and set directories
My directory structure:
$ tar -tf hom.tar
hom.tba
road/
road/12map/
road/12map/12map.map
road/12map/12map.set
road/12map/set/
road/14map/
road/14map/14map.map
road/14map/14map.set
road/14map/set/
road/16map/
road/16map/16map.map
road/16map/16map.set
road/16map/set/
sat/
sat/14sat/
sat/14sat/14sat.map
sat/14sat/14sat.set
sat/14sat/set/
sat/16sat/
sat/16sat/16sat.map
sat/16sat/16sat.set
sat/16sat/set/
topo/
topo/topo/
topo/topo/set/
topo/topo/topo.map
topo/topo/topo.set _________________ Joachim |

I have all of the parts of a program to convert US Geological Surveys PDF (free of the web) to to TrekBuddy Maps.... but something is off and tired of thrashing around.
I have three files
Alger04.gmi
Alger04.set
set\Alger04.jpg
---------- Alger04.gmi is
Map Calibration data file v3.0
AlgerO4.jpg
5692
3787
0;0;-122.375;51.625
5692;3787;-122.5;51.5
---------------AlgerO4.set is
AlgerO4.jpg
and Alger04.jpg
is
width: 3787
height: 5692
============
I'm getting "Empty map -- no tiles" when I attempt to load it.
What am I doing wrong? |

You should use a tool create a map for TB, like TBCutter. Alger04.jpg is not a valid tile name, it should be Alger04_0_0.jpg, but it is probably a whole map image that a midlet won't load anyway beucase it is too big.
And for USGS maps I suggest that you use Ozi Explorer (Trial), because there is not way to specify map datum in GMI calibration and you will need to do it for those maps - I guess UTM projection with NAD27 datum is what should be used... |

i cant find the tmi how-to at the begining of this topic. but found in another post: tar -R -tf map-name.tar > map-name.tmi
but i'm confused about deleting of *.map files and set folder. since set folder contains the *.png map pictures, it seems not that correct, removing them.
so anyone can explain what we can do with "map-name.tmi" and where do we place them?
tia,

Copy the .tmi file to the same directory where the .tar package is.
Once you have the tar package, you do not need to keep set/ folder and map file elsewhere because the tar package contains them - this is how I understand Joachim's post. |

Hi,
I am trying to use "Geogrid Viewer" maps (AMAP) with TB but have no idea how to use *.tmi functionality.
The *.tar map (oek500.tar - 23 MB) works, but startup time is about 5 mins. Creating a *.tmi with tar -R -tf oek500.tar > oek500.tmi and putting it into the same directory as oek500.tar doesn't have any effect on loading speed.
Starting of oek500.tmi in TB's Load Map dialogue results in an error "wrong calibration file".
What am I getting wrong?

Are you using 0.9.81 together with TBService? |

Yes, newest version of both. Works well with Googleak atlases but not with self-made tar-maps as described above.

Great!

Is there any guidance on this site on how to manually create a .map file? I looked a few, but cannot see to the file relates to the images.... |
