If you are searching a free development environment, you can also take a look at sharpdevelop...
Looking forward to the first version.

PostPosted: Sat Oct 31, 2009 6:51 pm    Post subject: MapNav Export - anyone info about .mnm / .mno map format? Reply with quote

Hi folks,

i get on with converting Googleak to .NET.

I discovered a "Export to MapNav" feature in the source code.
It was not activated and as far as i know it never was active nor bug free.

I got it running without crash after correcting some wrong commands.
But it seems not to create correct maps. I can not really test the output cause mapnav does not really work on my blackberry. But i think, it creates wrong output. I could get it working if i knew how mapnav map format looks like.
Does anyone have infos about .mnm / .mno map-format?
Or at least a few (working!!) .mno / .mnm -maps for me to analyze?

cheers,
Martin

MartinZ, I didn't use MapNav, but I found the description:
http://mapnav.spb.ru/site/page.php?22
Google translation to English: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=sk&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fmapnav.spb.ru%2Fsite%2Fpage.php%3F22
There are some examples at the bottom.

Please make available at first the existing functionality. Smile
If you make it working, my first wish will be to make map tile URLs configurable for existing map types. Because just lack of this one feature made Googleak almost dead few months after the last olegich's update.

Finishing MapNav Export is more fun Wink
But of course, you are right.

It is not only the URLs, that differ at different map sources. Some other parts of the code have to be adapted as well. It is a bit spread over the code.
Perhaps i can centralize this a bit more in future.
But you can edit map sources in the source code anyway. And now it is done with a free development environment (Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition), no payment, free download.

cheers, Martin

I understand there may be differences in processing of different map sources. But I meant the possibility to change the fixed part of URLs for the existing (pre-configured) map sources, such as Google Sat. For example to adapt the version number in URLs to Google Sat tiles. If user could modify that fixed part (for example version number in it), old Googleak would be live today. Lack of this feature made Googleak almost dead.

It's real advantage to have Googleak ported to a free development environment. But it would be big advantage too to enable such small URL correction without need to recompile Googleak.

To enable custom map sources is another higher level of the game ... Smile

-bugfixed OziExport and polygon selection.

-Export to MapNav can only create .mnm files (for bogi send link to file-type-description). Can not test them on real MapNav, however, if these maps really work on MapNav, The online MapNav-emulator seems not to work completely).

.mnu's not implemented yet, cause I did not find file-type-description so
far.

-Bothering around with python download threading by now. Perhaps i try to make multi-thread download possible inside the googleak .NET-Basic code instead. UAC under Vista/Win7 seems to make some problems in reading python registry keys (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) and so on...

-Most included map sources seem to work now. For some sources hybrid was done by overlaying map and sat. I have not implemented this by now.

Perhaps i manage to upload a pre beta "sneak preview" the next days.

cheers,
Martin
