I made this afternoon some tests with different rotated arrows and naviws images ... (nota : xCover2 screen is 480x800 resolution.)

- No memory problem, no bugs when i use "normal" png pictures rotated (size 210x210)

- Seems bugs happen when using big png pictures rotated for display "infinite" lines (size 1000x1000). Crying or Very sad
Maybe the phone dont like rotated pictures bigger than the screen resolution !

- I've not seen any freeze or memory problem with my CMS.

When I added more memory (bitmap) cleanups today, it revealed serious race condition when phone is being rotated during render operation. I must fix it.

Anyway, 1000x1000 is really a big bitmap for a phone Smile You are trying to workaround missing line drawing on map screen feature, I assume?

Yes, currently i dont see any other way to display "infinite" lines for arrows and naviws. (like screenshot attached)
For auto-rotate screen 480x800, i need a png picture about 1000x1000 (for full lines displayed in the corners ...) Wink

1000x1000 is nothing... Wink

For my S6 I need 2940x2940! (I have both arrows.png and naviws.png in this size on my S6, but have not (yet?) experienced any issues on the phone)

Exactly right!

On my Nexus 7 I have also used different sizes of arrows.png and naviws.png without issues. It was when I started to play around on the CMS screen, using many big png's ( Shocked ) to simulate line drawing functionality, when I started to run into the problems...

If i keep calm, i dont have too much problems with big size arrows/naviws 1000x1000 ...
Problems seems starting when shaking hard the phone in different ways with phone auto-rotation enable.
JNT, could you put your S6 into a cocktail shaker for testing ? Wink

This should work better, at least as good as before. But it cannot help if you are running out of memory because of huge bitmaps used to workaround missing feature Razz

Tested with "full handicap" (arrows/naviws 1000x1000), big crossairs, big atlas, zoom maximum, GPS fix, active navigation and TB used in "shaker mode" . Wink
No freeze and no bug (at least for me) and auto-rotation defect seems fixed. Smile

Yes, oom errors without crashing.

Is it just my imagination, or is the map display slightly more fuzzy than previously? (zoom set to maximum of 270, even though I really want more.....)

also, external configuration loading seems to not be active after updating

Seems no change for me than before.
Zoom 270% is more fuzzy than 100% because it's "numeric" zoom ! I think it's normal ... no ? (depend also of original picture map quality ?)

If someone uses computer based maps, with ie 96 ppi and phone with 576 ppi screen, it means zoom 600% for app !
From second side of view - map pictures should have around 214 ppi (or more) for smartphones like S7, to have map visible almost the same way like in computer, with 270% scaling available in app.
Solution is - prescale maps in computer tools, but price is too - big files/tiles for handling maps in app.
It means - more and more memory is needed for maps handling in app, but java like apps don't get so much memory in Android smartphones for pictures.
Closed circle ? Wink

As I said, could just be my imagination. It was on the same device (Nexus 7), using the same map and the same zoom setting (270) and it just looked a little more fuzzy than I remembered...

I don't know enough about the real details of graphics handling, but my logic says that integer multiples should be sharper, (2x, 3x or 4x) compared to fractions. No pixel interpolation required. So it is my feeling that 300% would be sharper than 270% for example.

Depends, from graphical point of view - can be, but sometimes, from map point of view ... not Smile
