Hi Kruch,

after 5 years I'm still a happy TB user - even using an iOS Phone for general purposes, I'm still running my BB9700 SIMless for geocaching with TB Smile

Saying that usually I have my GPX with WPTs (the geocaches) where I navigate to, but additionally I would like to open a GPX with a route that is just displayed on the map.

As I'm getting it now, I can do the one ore the other thing, but not both - or am I missing something?

Stefan

I do not think it is possible now. Sounds like interesting feature.
Anyone else has any thoughts on this?

Yes interesting feature :

Sometimes i have to display on map of TB, an area (Polygon created by road and wpts that i've build on my PC)
I can navigate along this road but this is not what i want ;
i would like (like Shen) seeing this road and in the same time, display and navigation along other classic track as usual ...

It should be good also to display different interesting useful wpts but not directly necessary for the track navigation ...

Thanks

1.31 will be bugfix-only release (and I'm kind of stuck with one bug, cannot reproduce the issue - http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7674). But after that...

... there are some other issues to be checked, regarding GPX files and their content, let it be WPTs, TRKs, or RTEs:
- it's a nonsense to route WPT files, isn't it? It would be much more logical to display them, anywhere (= on any layer, & wherever they are read from), as simple "dots"; full-featured-info (audio, images, GC, desc, cmt, name, ...) dots. (See, no matter how many years have they been misconsidered, "WAY"POINTS are only such when included into a RTE or TRK; otherwise, they are PTs)
- RTEs are (more or less) displayed as if they were TRKs (see Conf -> Navigation menu). In fact, they are not displayed with dashes, whatever the configuration.
- TRKs are displayed as tracks. Whatever the configuration, no dashes.
- If a GPX file includes both WPTs and TRKs/RTEs, when routing is started, both WPTs and ALL the RTE/TRKs in the file are routed. That is, all of them are displayed with connected lines; the whole GPX file is being read as a unique "TRK" file, and all the points - let them be WPTs, TRKPTs, or RTEPTs - are read sequentially.
There should be a sub-menu, after opening the GPX file, to choose the RTE / TRK to be rooted. And the WPTs should be displayed as such, without a RTE line.
- WPTs included in a Track (GPX) file - see previous paragraph - are displayed as RTEs.
So, concerning WPTs/RTEs/TRKs display: if their configuration is to be treated as unique for each sort, it might be unified into the "navigation" menu. Otherwise, it could be more useful to include these options into the forementioned 'submenu'. The same way we can 'go to'/'follow route'/'navigate to'/'...' WPTs, RTEPTs & TRKPTs, we might have an intermediate menu for RTEs/TRKs, with the configuration for each of them (See, in fact this is closely linked to the XML structure of the GPX file: for it's a tree of entities, each of them with its properties, which could be controlled from inside TB).

All in all, there is quite a lot of "strange behaviour" when dealing with GPX files, be it when displaying them, when loading them, and when modifying them.
(BTW, NMEA simulation works flawlessly in each and every version, which is a very uncommon & really nice feature. Could this be implemented also for GPX files?)

[Just an idea: as long as both GPX and SVG are XML files, in the long run it would be a good idea to consider a transformation of GPX into SVG, to get the (Tiny-)SVG rendered. That is, as long as we'll ever see SVG APIs in every platform - most J2ME devices do implement it, do not know of Android ones.]

Feature exists in TB, see sample below (one gpx with WPTs, RTE, TRK) Smile
The problem is how such elements are used now in complex files - WPT points are connected with line instead of RTE points, etc.
But for example, if WPTs and RTE both are the same, it looks like on sample ... Wink

Thanks for your answer Ranger and your experience ...

I dont all understand ... Confused

I want to navigate on normal track.
But sometimes it should be good to show some (custom) wpts without any relation with the current navigation, but necessary to display various informations, for example, benzine station, water, rescue point ...)
Is there a simple way for that ? Smile

Yep, maps with such kind of POI included Wink
Or if you have POI file, you can open it during navigation, ie sort by distance to current position and see place with GoTo.
Sample shows POI, track & route in one gpx Smile

@shen
Yep, there is no way to have two (or more) gpx files active on map, but why not to use ... one ? Smile
Shown sample comes from real planner:
http://mapa-turystyczna.pl/
producing one gpx with all kind of objects (POI, track, route).

This does not help because both GPXs are created using different software - I do not think that they could be easyly merged.
Especially my GPX for geocaching contains some geocaching dependant infos such as logs, hints, container size which must stay exactly in this format.
And the route I plan to walk is made by an other software.
