FAQ

1. TrekBuddy cannot be found by searching the Store (yet), you need to use direct store link to install it

2. Synchronization

2.1 SD

Due to restrictions in WP, files in resources, ui-profiles, sounds has to be packed in to tar packages (with flat structure), filename is not important (see screenshot).
The exception are GPX files (waypoints), but if a picture is linked from the GPX files (such as in travel guides), it won't be synced and therefore will be missing on screen. This is a bug in current version, tar archives in wpts folder will be supported too in order to sync also pictures.

2.2 OneDrive

No restrictions. If user selects synchronization when prompted on TB start, waypoints, customization files (crosshairs etc.) and CMS profiles are copied to internal application storage.
Due to limitations of background transfers in WP, map over 100MB can be downloaded only when phone is connected to external power. Otherwise you get "InvalidOperationException: The transfer file size is bigger than the allowed limit".

3. Maps

Maps (tar format) can be loaded from SD directly. Maps on OneDrive are copied to application storage and then opened. User is prompted before it really happens.

4. Application storage

Smart guys in Microsoft decided that applications will have their storage isolated, inaccessible from outside world, eg from PC. So applications have to provide its own management of files. In TB, if you want to delete a big map from app storage, use file manager Info->File Manager, go to /Local/TrekBuddy/maps folder and use context menu (long press).

Known issues
    - TrekBuddy folder has to be at root of SD and/or OneDrive
    - after synchronization with OneDrive, application has to be restarted to see updated CMS profile
    - waypoint/track file is uploaded to root folder on OneDrive and not to proper folder (if exists)

Windows Phone 8.10.12393.890
Nokia Lumia 925
Trekbuddy 1.26.0u24

I'm proud owner of an Lumia 925 and slowly get familiar with the Special restrictions of Windows Phone 8.1

Since there is no Access to the program Folder I can not store my PC generated GPX or LOC files directly in the disered Folder.

the Option to sync with cloud I have not tried yet but it seems worthless if I'm abroad or just 'offline'

Also the Option to install the whloe trekbuddy on SD won't work because there is no SD Slot present...

In my opinion the easiest way to solve this Problem would be to make the 'wpts' Folder adjustable to an accessable path e.g. 'downloads' opr 'documents' Folder which could be written by USB PC Connection - is this possible? I guess in a former version there was this Option to specify the path... but I#m not quite sure...

Overall the Impression of the new phone is quite moderate and unnecessary inconvenient...

hope there will be a solution for all (there are not too many ;) ) Windows Phone suffering

Best regards
Michael

Hi!
I'm trying to install TB on Nokia Lumia 625. I've already created the folder structure on SD card, but still, when trying to install the app from store, I'm getting an error saying that I don't have sufficient permissions to install it...
Can you help? How can I fix it?
Thanks!

I have Nokia Lumia 820 with WP 8.1. I installed TrekBuddy from Shop with no errors. Unfortunately I can only use the default World map. My maps and atlases (witch worked fine with Blackberry and Android) are not working. When I try to load them from Phone, OneDrive or SD card I got error messages. I tried to use TAR files - the same errors.

Are there any tips - HOW?

Regards,
InsekC

First, I don't know how you load maps from One Drive, they should be properly imported to phone by app to be used off-line.
Second - for WP tared atlases/maps should be used.
Third - probably you should check map preparation guide again
http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21
Just give more details about map (png or jpeg, how cutted, tmi files present or not, error message you got) or attach link to One Drive tared map not working for you, to check it, etc.

I made the Atlas from GoogleMaps Using MobileAtlasCreator 1.9.16. and put the tar files on the OneDrive:

OK, so let's go picture by picture Smile
1. microSD synchronization failed.
Do you have TrekBuddy folder (and subfolders) created in microSD root ?
2,3. Picts just shows synchronization with One Drive was started.
Do you have typical folder structure (TrekBuddy as main and subfolders) in One Drive root created by hand ? Maps are in maps subfolder ?
If you have it, One Drive sync loads maps too.
4. Pict shows Maps command use.
Why you should use ".." to go to storage root ?
If maps are synchronized well, they are visible just after using Maps command.
5,6,7,8 Picts shows map import from One Drive using Maps command. Are you sure map was downloaded properly ?
Probably not, cause app says incorrect file selected, but picts don't show what was selected indeed Smile
I use microSD sync to have atlases/maps available in app mostly, it is faster and works in Lumia 620 without problems.
See sample what is visible in Maps command, just after it was used (no other steps used to load maps). Simple & easy Smile

I created TrekBuddy folders on SD card manually. I put only TARed maps and atlases on OneDrive and SD card. Now I can Synchronizewith OneDrive. Finally I have all maps and Atlases on OneDrive, SD card and on Phone (but what is on phone I can't see with internal or external FileManager (it's WP). But when I try to load map or atlas from any of 3 available sorces I allways got an Error screen.

Bug you show is still the same, wrong map filename & can't be found.
I propose simple scenario. Try to load map sample known as working, ie:
http://www.jurajskiraj.pl/upload/File/gpsnew/TrekBuddy_Zabierzow.zip
(it is available as TB's free sample in my country)
Unzip it and copy tar & tmi files to maps folder on microSD.
Next run TB, use Maps command to load it in app as shown below. Works for you or not ? Smile

I've tried TrekBuddy on Lumia 520 and Lumia 920.
Lumia 520 gave good old TB experience with exception of tracks that couldn't be read from or saved to SD.
Lumia 920 is more troublesome.
Figuring out how to get maps to the phone was easy enough:
1. Put your maps in a trekbuddy/maps folder on you one drive. I think the best way to do this is with one drive desktop client.
2. Start TB, sync with OneDrive.
3. while in TB press home then maps then go up a folder level (two dots on the top of folder list) until you see OneDrive folder. Find the .tar file of your atlas (usually cr.tar)
4. The map starts downloading...
...BUT it usually doesn't finish and I get this message:

Edit 18.12.2014: Luckily I could re-download a map:
Just download the map again. TB will download the .tar file as usual and then start "copying files". After a while it will start downloading the missing parts of the map. There is one trick thou. I had to set the screen to "always on" or I'd get some error message after the phone locked the screen.

The screen on Lumia 920 (768x1280) also acts strange. Everything appears to be scaled as if Lumia or TB simulates 480x8__ screen.
This is how maps look

Note the gray border of tiles that shouldn't be visible.

And this is how a 720*1100 CMS profile looks like on Lumia 920

OTOH a 480x800 cms fits perfectly

I had trekbuddy on N8 and it worked excellent.
Now I have LUMIA 930 an WP 8.10.14157.200.
I have original (bought) maps with TAR and TMC (not TMI) files.
I copied folders from N8 to my OneDrive to the main directory except maps other folders are empty.
I tried with Zabierzow.zip sample
... and doesn't work as you can see on screenshots.
Please help, what was wrong?

Problem comes probably from not supported (yet) screen resolution 1080x1920 of Lumia 930. Interesting how you installed app at all ? Smile
Means not related to kind of used maps ...

Seems like stupid screen related bug...

@guest, could you please

1. set log level to 'debug' (Info->Technical->set loglevel) and restart TB
2. reproduce the problem, and the use Info->Technical->send log. It will copy application log to your OneDrive (root folder), please send the file to me.
