|

Hello Everybody.
First of all - huge Thank You to the author of TB application. It is realy great !!!
Anyway I am using TB on long bicycle trips (few weeks, once few months). As power supply I am using bicycle dynamo hub and a little solar panel. This is why I am thinking about Nokia 500 as next hardware for TB (and as phone of course). Why Nokia 500? - because it has one of the smallest bateries to charge,(if you take into account phones with sufficient screen size) what makes difference if dynamo hub is your only power supply. Unfortunately Google says nothing about Nokia 500 and TB working together.
Has anyone tried, or seen TB on NOKIA 500 ? I assume that it should work, but I would prefere to know it before I will buy it. (seller didn't agree for little test with my sd card, so I am asking You for a help)
Best Regards |

To x2fer: Any helper application (similar as for S60) is needed or it works without it?
To jareckisz: Wouldn't Nokia 603 (better display - 3,5" IPS Clear Black) be better? |

I have installed TrekBuddy in the N500, but only I have realized a few tests.
This device has three different memory units where TrekBuddy can to be installed.
I am working on unit "E:", 2GB built in memory. It is possible that the folder structure is not created, and you must create it later.
The screen light control (key 3) doesnīt work, and shows this error.
To avoid it, it is necessary to install TrekBuddy Service, although the device indicates that it is not compatible.
With this, the error does not appear, but the lighting of the screen remains to 50 % approximately, and it is not possible to change. _________________ N500 || C5-03 + BT-Q810 + TrekBuddy 1.2.2 (Espaņol) |

In theory, on S^3 devices TB should have enough control of backlight without the need for native service (I published new v0.8 packages, one for S^3 to avoid that ugly warning of incompatiblity and there are some map loading optimizations too, by the way). This will be "fixed" in the next version. http://www.trekbuddy.net/beta/2012-01-05/index.php
I could not test it on real device, I just tested it in remote Nokia lab, but phones there do not turn the backlight off at all |

With "use native service" unchecked it works OK. TrekBuddyService is not necessary. _________________ N500 || C5-03 + BT-Q810 + TrekBuddy 1.2.2 (Espaņol) |

Sorry, today I have been realizing more tests with 1.0.18 version, with "use native service" unchecked, the error does not appear, but the lighting of the screen change to 50 % approximately, and it is not possible to change.
In the C5-03 model, happens the same too. _________________ N500 || C5-03 + BT-Q810 + TrekBuddy 1.2.2 (Espaņol) |

I think I know
1. there was a little bug, now fixed http://www.trekbuddy.net/beta/2012-01-07/index.php (bug was: on Symbian Nokias, ther has to be some minimum backlight level, otherwise screen goes blank)
2. on Nokias, short key #3 press just turns on/off backlight, the desired level (10-25-50-100 %) is set up by long press (current backlight level is now shown in Info->Technical->Devicectrl)
And still, this version should be able to prevent screensaver without native service assistance. |

Now itīs working fine.
When backlight is turn off, it takes always 10%. it is not possible to select another value. _________________ N500 || C5-03 + BT-Q810 + TrekBuddy 1.2.2 (Espaņol) |

When you change backlight level using long key #3 press, then after 100% TB cannot set light to 0, because screen goes completely black, therefore minimal level is 10%.
But if you set backlight level to eg. 50%, and then turn off (short press #3), TB will (or should!) only stop reseting user inactivity counter, and light timeout and screensaver, as configured in device settings, should work. |

I am impressed,
thanks everyone for your involvment. As I can see I got answer on my question and additionally as side effect bugfix
@kruch, x2fer - thanks for fixes and tests
@yearling - maybe N603 would be better, but I am interested in low cost mobile.
Criteria are very simple:
- have to be possible to call and write sms, should have alarm and calendar
- TB have to work (required)
- resolution higher than N6233 (my old one), also because of TB
- battery should be small (same as power consumption), because of power supply used by me on bicycle (dynamo hub+little solar linked to home made charger for almost continous work with TB for few weeks)
Rest of features are simply "nice to have". |
