yep, thats the worst bit, as phone goes blank after 30 seconds until you hit any key and optional "backlight on" changes nothing.
Thats a shame, as this phone offers unrivalled offroad functionality and very precise GPS.

Anyone knows any work around to make Sonim display to stay on?

Please, please, please, Trekbuddy Developers, could the code be adjuste for Sonim phones?
Maybe a small patch, or something....

According to sonim, it is possible to implement backlight on/off function.

Here is how:

Quote:

11.1 Programming interface

public class BacklightController {
public static final int BACKLIGHTPERMANENT = 0;
public static final int BACKLIGHTSHORT = 1;

public BacklightController() {
}
public void turnOnBacklight(int timeOption) {
}
public void closeBacklight() {
}
}

The API provides 2 methods to control Backlight.
The turnOnBacklight(int timeOption) method keeps the backlight switched on according to the parameter ‘timeOption’.
The ‘timeOption’ parameter can take 2 values, BACKLIGHTPERMANENT and BACKLIGHTSHORT. The first parameter will keep the backlight turned on forever unless and the second parameter will keep the backlight turned on for some time and not forever.

The closeBacklight()method switches off the backlight.

Implementation notes:
A reference implementation is as follows:
BacklightController blc = new BacklightController();
blc.turnOnBacklight(BacklightController. BACKLIGHTPERMANENT);
The above statement will turn on the backlight permanently.

blc.closeBacklight();
The above statement will switch off the back light.

closeBacklight() method should be called between subsequent calls to turnOnBacklight() method.
