in the past i had made some test with a vario tone.
At least on my s60 it was not very successfull.

My Idea was creating 20 short soundfiles each 500ms long with different frequencies.

depending on the climbrate it should play ones a second the corresponding soundfile.

result was, sometimes i get a sound, sometimes not.
maybe the "play" command dont like such short soundfiles, maybe it is a problem of s60.

In my theme there are some codefragment of this tests:
http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3177

if you want to make a test install the theme, create a subfolder:
TrekBuddy\ui-profiles\vario

copy 440.wav to that folder

open air.hcl and search for this line:
# play vario/440.wav

and remove the "#" at the beginning.

now trekbuddy should play a short beep at every gps position update.

If that works on youre mobile, it could be possible to create a simple vario.

Thomas
