(b) I created an atlas before the Google problem but don't know where to place which files. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks.

look into the folder called: atlasestared
if an atlas gets created a subfolder is created, something like: 2008-12-04_182639

rename the folder, for example: "2008-12-04_182639" into "my-special-city-atlas" and move the folder called "my-special-city-atlas" on your phone: phone:Trekbuddy/maps/ . so it looks like: phone:Trekbuddy/maps/my-special-city-atlas
start trekbuddy, choose option "load atlas" and navigate to the folder: "phone:Trekbuddy/maps/my-special-city-atlas" and finaly choose cr.tar.
thats it.

google has now ( at least i discovered it now) a "Terrain" view. that looks not that bad. any chance to get this build into the application? Smile

@regghk: as long as they use compatible tiles sizes, there is a good change, it will get added. the tile size was a problem, with the first suggestion, someone made (page 16 - rockmzw suggested: http://map.baidu.com ).

Oops, I found the problem is: for some big cities in China, the TrekBuddy_Atlas_Creator sees the english translated map, see atlas_creater.gif

but if I check the same area in maps.google.com it is google_map.gif, my browser's locale is zh-CN (chinese). My guess is the atlas creater http fetching locale is en, so google.com will return english map if possible...

and if my guess is right, I would be really great to have a way to change the atlas creater's locale, many thanks!

(I tried to change the url parm from hl=en to ie=UTF8 it seems fine...)

@regghk:

Yes, by default the parameter "hl" in the url is set to "en". Can you please provide a complete image url so that I can add the chinese hl value? You can get this for example by using the Lice HTTP headers Firefox plugin or a local proxy that displays all downloaded URLs.

got the url, using context menu, over the map (open image...):
mt1.google.cn/mt?v=cn1.5&hl=zh-CN&x=5&y=2&z=3&s=G
mt0.google.cn/mt?v=cn1.5&hl=zh-CN&x=6&y=3&z=3&s=Galil
mt3.google.cn/mt?v=cn1.5&hl=zh-CN&x=7&y=2&z=3&s=Galileo
mt3.google.cn/mt?v=cn1.5&hl=zh-CN&x=5&y=3&z=3&s=Ga

no typo, some say: G, Ga, ... , Galileo at the end of the url.

OK, I have added Google Maps China as new map source and for the regular Google maps the hl parameter can be specified.

Additionally this beta uses a new experimental algorithm for creating custom sized tiles which is memory and map size size independent.
Please note that this algorithm is currently totally unoptimized - therefore will cost much much CPU. As there is not progress bar for showing the custom tile size creation progress bar it may look like TAC is hanging - but that is not true. Please just wait...

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Embarassed I have a 16GB microSD card for my Blackberry Curve, would it be possible to download the entire United States at zoom level 15, and put it on my phone?

Ok, here a new release. It fixes the NullPointerException reported on Sourceforge and it adds a progress bar for the map/tile creation.

The theoretical calculation:
The area of the USA on zoom 15 covers ~ 5400 x 2700 tiles (~15.000.000 tiles to download)
Each tile has approx. 8KB -> 5400 x 2700 * 8KB ~ 111GB

Does that answer your question?

Hello,
i have a N6234 (s40)
I tried to make an GoogleEarth Atlas from the whole World on zoom level 4 and 5.
The tile size is 256x256 and the pictures are 24Bit - filesize is max.25KB.
(GoogleMaps tiles are 8Bit and up to 50KB, no problems here.)

TrekBuddy can only show 3 tiles at the same time.

Is it possible to create the tiles with lower resolution (16Bit) !?
or should i report ths to kruch?

Google Maps uses PNG images that is an additional difference.

TAC does not support reducing the color depth nor format conversion (PNG<->JPG). In your case I would recommend smaller tiles (eg. 128x128).

Just wanted to thank you for your efforts. I really find this program useful!

As others have noted, could you please add Google Hybrid maps (satellite with road overlay) to this.

Again, cheers to you for making life so easy for all of us!
