I found it was very hard to move the maps because I do not have a touch screen. Moving the maps with only four keys i.e. up, down, left and right vertically and horizontally was buggy. I would suggest to use the keys such as 1, 3, 7, 9 for moving the maps diagonally. That would help in reducing the time required to search places. I know that these keys are used for other functions but these functions can be transferred to the menu option. The other thing that I would suggest is calculating the distance from one place to another on a curved path. You can take inspiration from Google MG maps. They have a option named as joystick mode. If you switch the option on you can use the keyboard to move the maps in all the directions. Please reply. Thanks

This could also be done by first pressing the key for let's say left and then down. To stop these movements, you then have to use the both opposite keys or "5".
So there would be no change to the existing key mapping, which I would prefer.

Calculating a distance along a curved path cannot be done with bitmapped maps and vectorzied maps are not supported by TB.

Hi, Stefan... Have you voted 'no' option, perhaps? Shocked Shocked

or anyway you have not voted at all? Rolling Eyes

BTW, IMHO you have enhanced the first purpose, so i agree with you and i vote 'yes' on this way. Wink

It is a pitty that FIRE/key5 is already used for switching between map browsing and live GPS tracking (when it is running). It would be nice to have a way for switching from/to joystick mode...
Using sequence of 2 keys to start or diagonal movement or stopping it by having to press opposite key does not seem very intuitive to me...

I forgout about the 5 key already used.

Sure using 2 keys is not that intuitive, but which other chances do we have without loosing the actual functionality of the diagonal keys? Smile

Maybe we could have long and short press of Fire/5 - long for changing browsing/tracking mode, short for 1-3-7-9-hotkey/extended-browsing mode. Or vice versa to preserve backward compatiblity...

Sounds good to me if short keypresses are used for the "old" functions. I do not use moving the map by keyboard but by Trackball. But I use the WPT menu and map switching very often.
Or you could make it configurable, so everybody would be lucky Smile

The same principal as for overloading of key "0" can be used. It is analogical to Caps lock on keyboard. Pressing of * toggles meaning of 0 key. If this status is detected on screen by * near the scale, other buttons can have different function. Activation of "star lock mode" by * button would be faster than from menu. Speed of movement in this mode could be faster 2-4 times.
