@franc: You can pause TAC and resume it later. If you use hibernate you can resume it even after some days later.
Alternatively you can rely on the tile store. If you close TAC and restart it later the tiles in the tile store are still present and will be used instead (as long as they are not expired for Outdooractive the xiration time set by the server is ~1 month but you can increase that by using increasing the "minimum expiration time" in the settings dialog) . Therefore those tiles will not be downloaded again which should give you a better start.

@michal7: Your idea is possible but it would require much work. For short term I think it would be much easier to allow an direct atlas merging (new atlas into existing atlas directory).

With a new download with existing tiles (up to 58%) it will be on 58% in some minutes then?

If i calculate the time from beginning to now 58% it should be done tomorrow. But if i calculate the time from 0 to 55% and then from 55% to 58% it will be done next year. Is this normal?

Unfortunately not!

I stopped TAC, and restarted it with the same (saved) profile and what does TAC? It uses another directory (the date added to the name, e.g. de_11-13-15_2009_11_27_112508).
OK, i pause it and move my already downloaded contents into that new directory, but good heavens, my old files will now just be overwritten.
So nothing is won.

I use 1.7pre2.

Unfortunately not!

I was talking about the tile store and not about the partial created atlas.
Open the settings dialog and open the "tile store" page. There you will see how many tiles has be saved in the tile store and therefore will not be downloaded again.
Of course the atlas creation starts again at the beginning but if you monitor your network traffic you will see that there is none as long as the tile store is used.

Now i understand it.
Maybe this was the reason for the slowing down after TAC downloaded too many tiles into \tilestore\.
If i try to open the directory, the windows explorer hangs, there are too many files in it. When i go to the TAC settings and "tile store" page, the Tiles and Size are not shown, it takes too long.

This might have blocked my File-System.

So i should try the download now with the 1.7pre2 because it uses a database to store the tiles, i guess.

Thank you for explanation, Robert.

Is it possible to merge those not-finished-folders, e.g.:

de_11_13_15 13 (00)\
de_11_13_15 13 (01)\
de_11_13_15 13 (02)\
de_11_13_15 13 (03)\
de_11_13_15 13 (04)\
de_11_13_15 13 (05)\

to one folder?

PostPosted: Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:39 am    Post subject: Basic GPX Help Instructions Reply with quote

Looks like I need some basic instructions on using the GPX function in ver 1.6.1.

*Left Clicking on "New GPX" gives me a "Unnamed" title in the GPX box.
*Unlike the "Atlas Content" box Right clicking on "Unnamed" does not present a menu box to change the name.
*Clicking "Add wpt" does nothing.
*Clicking on position of desired wpt presents an "Input" box for the wpt name. After clicking "Ok" the name and position are indicated on the map but again clicking "Add wpt" does not add the wpt to the GPX box... Question
Same problems are incurred in ver 1.7 preview 2
So some basic instructions are requested please....
Thanks,
Tom
PS: A minor suggestion would be to try in 1.7 the addition of +- boxes on the zoom function control(zooming one step at a time).

The behavior you describe is exactly as it is designed.
The GPX list shows the list of active GPX files, not tracks, or points.
You can change the name of the GPX files on save.

Thanks for the quick reply. Suggest you consider the "GPX" list box having the same functionality as "Atlas Content". Currently it appears if one wants to change the name of or delete a wpt in the list , the complete list must be cleared and rebuilt.

Thanks for you efforts, Atlas Creator makes it easy to cut maps for TrekBuddy

PostPosted: Mon Nov 30, 2009 5:35 am    Post subject: TAC 1.7pre2 doesn't finish Map creation with big atlases Reply with quote

Hello,

it might be a bug in 1.7pre2:

I make an atlas from whole germany with Zoom Levels: 7, 10, 12, 14 and though TAC tells me after some hours that all is finished successfully i have in the directory of the new atlas not only 4 subdirectories (for: 7, 10, 12 and 14) but 28.
For the maps with Zoom Level 14 i have 23 directories named with (00), (01), (02), ... (23) in the end. For the maps with zoom level 12 i have only 2 (00), (01) and for 7 and 10 only one, which is ok.

The saved profile has many directorynames as well.

So is this a bug or by design?

Maybe it is possible to recreate the maps to get them into one folder for one zoom level?

Regards, franc

This is by design. Maps larger than the maximum map size (see settings) are splitted into several maps.

TrekBuddy Atlas Creator 1.7 preview 3
Download link removed - please use a newer version
This is a technical preview version - please test it and report back anything noteworthy (the good and and the bad things and of course errors & bugs).

Errors are preferred to be tracked in the bug tracker at Sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=238075&atid=1105494

This release uses a database for the tile store instead of plain files in the file system. Existing files from older versions are ignored.

Changelog since v1.6.1 (those in bold are new to v1.7 preview 3):
~ Tiles tore now uses database (BerkelyDB) instead of tile files in file system
+ Old tiles saved in the tile store are checked and updated when used (displayed in map view or used in an atlas). Updating is done via expiration settings - those provided by the server or otherwise user specified.
+ Atlas output directory can be specified via settings dialog
+ AndNav and OSMTracker: Tile format conversion (JPG <->PNG) implemented including color reduction
~ Docelu.pl can update it's base url like the Google map sources do
~ Pause/resume button now works while map creation (not only while download)
+ New experimental map source: Turaterkep (Hungary hiking) Uses tiles of size 512x512 (not supported by all atlas formats)
+ Multi layer map sources can defined and displayed (download not yet implemented)
+ new map: NearMap Australia (high-resolution aerial images for Australia)
! GPX addWpt: Multiple way points added by one mouse click fixed
! Start.sh/Start.cmd Java max heap setting was ignored by Java because of the position at the end of the command line
! #2904937 and #2905182 1px map calibration bug
+ New map sources: Yandex Maps & Sat (Russia)
+ New map source: Humbermedia Bavaria
+ New atlas format: Mobile Trail Explorer Cache (writes single MTECache file per atlas)

What is the version or update of Google Earth that you can click the picture in front of a house and see it? on google earth, you can go to an address and there is a little button in front of the house or place. that button allows you to see a picture of the house?
