As I see currently taking snapshots is possible only when the gps is operating.

Would it be possible to take a snapshot also when using the "Add custom" option?

Or introduce some other way to be able to access the camera function while Trekbuddy is operating?

edit:
Please write your experiences with this feature on your phone.
Any reports on Symbian?
Please write your telephone model.

From what I see JP7 ( K550i K770i, K800i, K810i etc.) can only make photos with the native camera application if special patches are applied to specific firmware.

Just as with JP6 (K550i, W810i, ) and JP5 (K750i, W800i).

I don't know about JP8 (K850i) or Symbian yet.

Extended camera handling capabilities for Java apps (JSR-234) are available from JP-7. Nothing more. No patches needed Wink

@temptrekbuddy

do you mean there is a patch (on k750 for example) that allows using camera while java app running simultaneously?

I thought it is not possible, also I thought that JP7 and later have this functionality without any patches ... (or even JP6 including)

do you have some links, with info on patches?

I'm sorry I'm not an expert on this issue. You'll have to look for it on the web. Or just ask your local gsm service if they could do it? Watch out you may lose you guarantee.

I can recommend you the mother of all patches: http://mobilefree.ru/newbb_plus/ (site in russian)

Pretty sure I checked on JP6 W810i that it didn't handle photos by default.

I'll try to get my hands on a JP7 or JP8 and confirm them though.

I agree with w810, it can't shoot while java running - I just thought it's JP5 Smile

a fast search of a patch did not give any results in your link, I really doubt that such a patch exists, as I read esato.com very often, and have never seen such thing (or idea) anywhere.

according to experiences of using Trekbuddy's photo features.
I have tried it on my k750 with v81 (or v80) (while using nmea simulator as GPS source)
now I don't remember exactly resolutions or error messages, but I remember that capturing with small resolutions was working ok, but high res photos had problems, it gave some error message after 2nd or 3rd captured high res photos, and could not do high res photos untill Trekbuddy restart.

Really ? Very Happy
You can read exact info from document
"Java™ Platform, Micro Edition, CLDC – MIDP 2
for Sony Ericsson feature and entry level phones"

Patches for working both camera&apps are known long time.
But it is not recommended way, better is if your phone allows you do it without patches. For example, what you will do if someone call you on time of camera recordings ? Do you know what you will see recorded ? Shocked Laughing

My experience is JP5 (k750i) - not possible without patches, JP8.3 (C702) - possible without patches&problems.

I know that K750 can be flashed to W800 for which this patch exists.
I'm also 99% sure such a patch exists for K750i
look here for instance - http://www.clubsonyericsson.com/foro/index.php?topic=25535.msg198199

JP7 can take photos while java runs (K550i, K770i, K800i, K810i )
K750, W800i (JP5) and W810i (JP6) need a patch to take photos while java runs

What about Symbian S60 3rd, S60 FP1 (E51, E71 and others) ?

I found out that phones with modded camera drivers can have issues using the native camera application, while java runs, even if they're platform should be capable of allowing it.
