Hello,
I have a small (noobish) question about creating tarred maps. I noticed a command line (tar -cf 18_Okoli_Prahy_sever.tar 18_Okoli_Prahy_sever.map set) in the fist post from kruch and the "program" called "unixtutils". The problem is that I don't know where to put that command. Embarassed
I found the file sh.exe in the "bin" folder from unixtutils and if a wrote that command down and it gives me an error. So am I using the right program at all and is the file "sh.exe" the right place to write down the command.
Thank you for you answers.
Andrej

P.S.:Where does the .map and .set files goes when you create tarred map. Is this a .gmi file?

Hi Andrej,
Unixutils is set of utilities. You should use tar.exe, not sh.exe.
Easier way can be to use free windows graphical tools like TUGZip, to have files tared.
If you would have single map tared, just include in tar file all map files, without changing files structure.
If you try to prepare atlas, special content should be prepared for tared atlas header, you can include tared maps in atlas as you prepared them for single usage.
Gmi file is just another calibration file like .map, but produced with Map Calibrator instead OziE.
When you create tared map all map files (means .map, .set and map tiles) are included in one file with tar extension.

Your Ozi is configured to display lat/lon in dd mm.mm format. If you change it to dd mm ss.ss, you'll see the same coordinates as in TrekBuddy.

Hi all,
I'm using TBMapper to export my custom map to .tar file. Everything is ok but when I load tar-ed file into my Nokia E65 I can't load it as a custom map. Maybe something is wrong with tile width and hight. Any ideas?

Hey guys,

I have 2 maps.
The first is a 1:50000 map which is 1101 by 1001.
The second is a 1:25000 map which is 2201 by 2001.

My question is can I just calibrate these and tbcutter them as normal, or should I resize the 2nd image so that it is the same size as the first?

Sorry if this is a daft question, but its only my 2nd go at maps.

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi, you do not need to resize the maps.

@ kruch

A big thanks for TrekBuddy, it is a very nice and useful application.

And with TrekBuddy_Atlas_Creator it is also very easy and fast to create maps/atlases.

Thank you very much for TrekBuddy, from The Netherlands.

Hi everyone, I have just discovered this wonderful program and am running on a Nokia 6230i with no problems.

I found in making maps using tbcutter and MapExplorer I was experiencing large errors of the order 10" a rough guess of around 200 metres. I found that adding the line

Map Projection,Mercator

as the first line of the .map file cured the errors.

Thanks for a wonderful program.

I've noticed, that an empty tile 300x400 takes near 5kb. If you have a bit map and there are many white empty tiles - you can save quite an ammount of space. Natural question comes here - can I use symlinks inside tar to save space of similar tiles?

I'm afraid symlinks are not handled now (not sure, will check). But "scattered" map support is on the way, and it will be possible to omit "empty" tiles in a map...

PostPosted: Sun Jun 01, 2008 8:46 am    Post subject: Calibrating maps already in tiles? Reply with quote

Hopefully not too much of a noob question:
If I've got access to a source of maps which is already broken into tiles, can I calibrate these directly (using Oziexlorer, mapcalibrator, etc), rather than having to stitch them all together then re-slice it? If some sort of "direct" calibration is possible it seems the only other thing is to rename the tiles with their pixel coords which is fairly trivial.

cheers
Steve
