So I have map on .pdf file (scale 1:20000, printed appr 70*50cm->15*10km)

I have not yet found solution (freeware) to change pdf to jpg or png to be used for TB further steps (Tb cutter..)

Any proposals how to proceed

Calibration naturally need to be done separately, but thats understood

if the image in pdf is a raster image (like jpg), then adobe reader can export that image.
if you have a vector pdf file, adobe photoshop or adobe acrobat can do the conversion to jpg, but they are not freeware.

if you can't do it yourself, probably you can upload your pdf here (if it is not too big), I'll try to convert it to jpg and send to you (again if the result is not too big)

also I've just did a quick search in google "free pdf to jpg convertor", so there seem to be some applications, and even if you get some trial version, probably still the conversion of single image will be possible.

thanks a lot

it is vector file, 9.4 MB . I have also tried some freeware long time ago , they could not handle the size (typo corrected, not G but MB)

I will try to paste to my homepage and link here in the evening (ftp resticted by company Firewall - so needs to be done from home)

sorry man 9.4 GB is too big for me to download - as my internet connection is not that fast, also resulting image will be big eough, so uploading still will be a problem Sad
you would rather find cracked photoshop, or adobe acrobat,
I assume acrobat still may have problems with such a big file, but I think photoshop can handle it, as it uses hard drive, when ram is not enough.

you could try to use the netpbm/xpdf tools for win32 or the linux ones, if you have such a setup:
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html
ftp://ftp.foolabs.com/pub/xpdf/xpdf-3.02pl2-win32.zip
use pdftoppm.exe to convert the pdf into a ppm and any capable tool to make a jpg or whatever from the resulting .ppm.
usage: pdftoppm.exe map.pdf map.ppm

Here is netpbm package: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/netpbm.htm this has a tool called ppmtojpeg
usage: ppmtojpeg map.ppm > map.jpg

or you can combine both (linux box style):
pdftoppm map.pdf | ppmtojpeg > map.jpg

pdftoppm has some usefull options for scaling, etc.
pdftoppm -r 75 map.pdf | ppmtojpeg > map.jpg
scales image to 75 dpi, for example (default is 150).

Edit: those ppm files gets very big. so ensure you have enough free hdd space.

thx a lot for your proposal.

I live dual life, at work with laptop (as now) which is strictly protected from any new installs, ftp etc. - i.e. fine for forums etc, but not to really do anything creative.

and at home desktop PC with good connections, but it also at the same time family TV, i.e. I can not play with it always. And as a father of 2 schoolagers my main role outside of the work is chauffeur

and honestly, I am not too familiar with non-Gates SW, i.e. I have to reserve time to study and test your proposal - and zero linux knowledge

I have though also other .pdf?s which at later phase I have to process as well, for those I will certainly study your proposal

thanks a lot

its not that difficult, just run the "usage" examples from within the windows dos-box (command-line box / cmd.exe) once you installed the tools. its worth a try. good luck.
