Hi,

TB is my favourite tool for geocaching!

But using the TB 1.0.18 on the S40 Nokia 6303i classic works fine until i started to open a gpx file. Under certain conditions the app closes or freezes the phone.
When a wpt is selected for navigation a 2nd selection of a different wpt of the same file to navigate to or sometime a third or fourth selection crashes the application or lets phone freeze.

Alternatively select a wpt to navigate to and add a custom wpt to the same gpx file will close the app when you open the gpx file via the menu once more.

Kind regards,
hdi

I cannot reproduce it on 6303 non-i, I tried both test cases. Does it happen with GPS connected, without, or regardless?
It could also happen because of low memory, depending on loaded map.

I will generate a small map tomorrow (monday) and try again.

Kind regards,

Are you using Settings->Misc->1-tile scroll? Newer S40 are now internally using 32bpp image format, but still provide only 2 MB heap for midlets Sad

Hi,

instead of generating a small map i just set an invalid map name to prevent TB loading other than the default Europe picture in order to test.

'1-tile-scroll' is not checked. (But with or without checked i notice the problem.)

Still the effect is reproducible:
start TB
Navigation/Waypoints/<file> open (content: 5 wpts)
open 1st wpt
Navigat...
Navigation/Waypoints/<file>
open 2nd wpt
Navigat...
Navigation/Waypoints/<file> open ---> black screen ---> Mobile standby screen

Do you need some more configuration information?

Kind regards,
hdi

Unfortunately cannot reproduce on 6303classic. Could you check Settings->Misc->external cfg backup and Save configuration? A very small file settings.dat containg TB cfg should appear in TB resources folder, please send it to me. I will check it, but I'm afraid it is some issue in java implementation in the firmware. Could you also send me the gpx file with waypoints you used to reproduce the issue? Thanks.

Hi,

i have just send you the settings and gpx files via mail. Before that i removed the TB directory structure and the .rms files in the TB program folder in order to do a basic setup. After that i tried to reproduce the effect - unfortunately with success. (TB still closes after 2nd access of a wpt.)

Maybe another possible reason: I have NOT installed the TB via the nokia pc suite. Instead i copied the .jar and .jad to a folder on the sd card of the phone and just opened the TB application after allowing the necessary access rights according to the TB wiki installation hints.
Could it be, that the behavior is that nasty when installed on the sd card??

Kind regards,
hdi

Damn it... I tried the same way of "installation" (cool - I've had no idea this is possible with S40), and I can change a wpt how many times I want without a crash. Very similar phones, same OS version... Sad

After you open a gpx file, how much memory is free? (Info->Technical->Memory)
Do you have recent firmware?

Hallo,

the SW is V 10.80 Date 21-01-11 RM-638
I have not updated the firmware, yet.

after TB start with map: 2097152/1606132
after wpt1 loaded: 2097152/1561916
after wpt2 loaded: 2097152/1562400

I guess, memory is not the problem...

Kind regards,
hdi

Definitely, that's more than plenty of memory... And rather recent firmware too... Neutral

For quick access to current wpts (= lastly loaded or used gpx file), you can press key #1. Does it crash too when you advance to next wpt using this shortcut?

And it looks like there is a bug in TB: when you open the same gpx file via Navigation menu, it reloads the file again although it has been already processed Sad

Also, there is one potentially dangerous piece of code in loading waypoints; I commented it out in this build: http://www.trekbuddy.net/beta/2012-01-03/index.php

Hi,

i have good and not that good news:
The good one is, that if i use the shortcut to access the next wpt, i can hop between wpts of the same file without any problems. (But when i long press the #1, chose the same or different gpx file 'it' happens.)

The not that good one: The problem still exists in the beta you just baked.

Is there someting falsely open, the moment, when the user choses the menu item to open a gpx file (after former opened a gpx)? Maybe a former valid (file)handle / pointer / object is used after (re)open a gpx file?

Kind regards,
hdi

Hi,

I came here specifically looking for this problem, so I am glad to find this thread.

I am having exactly the same crash with TB on my 6303i. To be specific, loading a single waypoint file works fine, it is when a second waypoint file is loaded (or the same waypoint file is loaded again for whatever reason) TB crashes. I have found it completely resets the phone, not just kills TB and this causes a big problem in that any tracklog file that is currently being saved is wiped completely (I have lost a number of days of hiking logs this way).

This is 100% repeatable and I have found it present since the first version of TB I downloaded (~ Jan 2011) so the problem is not new.

I hope this helps.

I can confirm this has been fixed in the latest few versions of TB.

Thank you very much for your efforts. I really appreciate that you were able to fix this problem.
