|
Hi Kruch,
any successes reported yet to get TB to run on a RIM Blackberry 8800?
Just tried all three Variants of TB ... But I don't get it to start. - Always get something "verification error 420 at offset 0fb6" ...
Any ideas?
Which variant is most likely to run on BB anyway?
Thanks
Hegi.

BB requires special JAD files converted for this platform, moreover, in some cases I had to change obfuscation settings and even remove unused variables and functions before BB would stop giving this error.
In short its next to impossible to get success without having access to one device.

Hi tazzix,
OK. Are all BB Devices more or less the same? I could ask my boss, If we could donate an older device. Possibly a 7230, 7290 or 7100. - However, only the latter two have Bluetooth and an internal GPS has none. I'd presume the 7100 would be the best to try with.
If that's of any worth and KrUcH has the time (or there are Volunteers), I'll do my best get one device for these purposes.
Sounds like a plan?
Hegi.

You can download a Blackberry 8800 simulator from
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/downloads/simulators.jsp
You can even simulate a GPS route.
I use the 8800 Vodafone version
The way I load the jar file into my BB is:
- On your PC: Launch Desktop Manager; Media Manager
- On the right panel, go to Device memory and create a new folder
- Copy the jar file to this folder
- In the Simulator: Go to the Media icon and press enter
- Press the Menu button (between the green answer button and trackball)
- Explore, Device Memory
- Open the folder you created and select the jar file, press enter and Download
- When the installation is finished you can chose Run. It should also be in the programs list.
I've just done this on the simulator, I get exactly the same error message as on my real BB: Error starting trekbuddy: Module 'trekbuddy' has verification error 420 at offset 1430
Thanks

Thanks!
Some time I have already downloaded 8800 (O2 version) and tried to load trekbuddy.cod using "Load Java program", but it did nothing...

What is Desktop Manager and where do I get it? It does not seem to be included with the simulator...
EDIT: OK! I got Media Manager working. Now, how do I "Explore device memory" in the simulator? I can't see my jar under Media(?) anywhere...

Media icon opens a list: Music, Video, Ringtones, Pictures.
- Press the Menu button (between the green answer button and trackball)
-> this is the button with the BB logo. While in Media it should show a menu: Help, Explore, Switch Application and Close. You select Explore and press enter.
Now you get another list: Up, Media Card and Device Memory. Here you select Device Memory.
Hope this was clear.
I know there are other ways to convert the jar file to a cod and alx but it requires me to install the Sun JDE.

PS can you activate my account please?

Thanks. Finally I can work on making Trekbuddy run in BB.
By the way is there a way to get output of System.out.print to screen/file?
You account has already been activated.

Finally an offline GPS program for my BB!
Not sure what you mean with System.out.print but if you check the help, Index, Logging, simulator options there are some options you could play with? It looks like it's already on the highest level of logging by default.
Maybe this: in Help, Contents, BB device simulator controller, Using test scripts it says the results are written to a file?

I have 7100t (OS 4.1.x)) for testing. How do I deploy TrekBuddy to it? I tried
* converting jar->doc using rapc, then javaloader -u load trekbuddy.cod, seemed successful, yet - I see no TrekBuddy in the device
* wrote .alx by hand, but when in Desktop Manager->Application Loader I select trekbuddy.alx, I get "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found"
Another thing is that OS 4.1 seems to lack JSR-75 (file connection) and JSR-82 (bluetooth). Is there any chance to get v4.2 where these extensions are implemented?
Please advice, thanks

Hi,
I recently found your application, and was astonished by the rich featureset it provides.
Unfortunately i have a BlackBerry 8800, and somehow even the latest build that you have for it is not working correctly.
What I did is to take the JAR and JAD files, and convert them to ALX / COD files and install the app on the BB.
But when it started, in the Settings menu i cannot find the items for loading maps, or the menus for storing of tracks and so on.
Might that be due to some restrictions on the BB or ?
Regards, Vladimir
