For BB devices ... what was it before this release?
And: Isn't assisted GPS included in the HIGH power setting?

Kruch:
I really don't need any changes except the one that if I press the "set Maps or ATlas button" I can't cancel that operation. I need to find a valid map or Atlas file.
And please, do not remove the Android top bar or make an option if possible to have it visible or not. I want it there! |

@MrTom
Backlight change notification is now vibration (you may have vibrations turned off globally or in TB with power save option in Misc) + yellow bulb icon in bottom-right corner.
Add Field Note command - go into some wpt details, press BB Menu key (or whatever they call it), it should be last but one command.
@shen
I was wrong! It was MEDIUM till 0994, and HIGH since then!

Only if "cost is allowed" , ie. assisted GPS is on in TB settings.
@salmonsalar
Top bar will be controlled by Settings->Desktop->fullscreen option in some future version. At present, this option has no effect. |

Yes , I run TB with "power option". Now I see the light symbol and only one vibration when power save is disabled".
When I Key #1 I see :
Navigation-
Waypoints,Tracks,Field Notes, Record Current, Add Custom, SMS I'm here, SMS Meet you there
Choosing Field Notes > Indicates I have no field notes and immediately reverts back to above menu.
Choosing Waypoints>
I get my wpt list, on choosing a list my options are:
Select, Navigate to, Route along, Route Back, Showall, GoTo, Sortbyposition, SortbyName, SortbyDistance | Back
No "Add Field Note command "as indicated.
This appears to be notes mainly for GeoCaching and probably a feature I would rarely or never use. Only mention it as an information source to you.
I like the fact that I can do extended hikes and use mininal power. This will be great for a planned multiday hike. Will reduce the number of spare batteries I will need.
Thanks,
Tom |

Eh, I've found "Add field notes" menu. It is under "Tracks", however it should be under "Waypoints" IMHO. Or both. So far I loaded my Geocache related gpx files under WPTS directory, as they contain distinct points, not a chain of points linked together into a track. Reading the posts I think that everybody looked for the new feature under "Waypoints" menu.

You should Open wpt info to have Add Field note visible in options for it
I agree with MrTom - Field Notes are specific for geocaches.
Question is how to be sure about wpt type, if additional info for geocache wpt is not present in gpx ... |

Well, experimenting a bit on gpx files, I'found that if I remove the GreoudSpeak tags from the file, I can add field note, but if they exist there, I can not.
Sample GPX from www.geocaching.hu:
| Code: |
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Using this version, I cannot add field notes.
Stripped version of the above:
| Code: |
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<gpx xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" version="1.0" creator="Groundspeak, Inc. <urlname><![CDATA[GCKOPI]]></urlname>
<sym>Geocache</sym>
<type><![CDATA[Geocache]]></type>
</wpt>
</gpx>
|
Now the field notes are enabled. Why do I have to remove geocaching related info from gpx, to be enabled to enter some other geocaching related info?

I like the backlight change notification.
The little sun icon displayed on bottom right of the screen is great |

| @footz I believe the power consumption includes GPS, because I get ~ 15% usage without GPS on on G1. But, again, it is 1.6, I'll check this too. |
I've played with trekbuddy offline today, just some map browsing, GPS turned off. The battery use display shows (6 h from last charging) that trekbuddy uses 76% of battery. I have no idea how much that is as for the battery itself, but compared to other apps, which battery use doesn't exeed usually 10%, it seems too high. _________________ HTC Desire + Android 2.1 + Trekbudy 0.9.98 |

A little suggestion for the Field Notes would be to as you have said above:
- Update the time to be correct.
- Be able to pull in your current location as when you log a found geocache, you can add a waypoint.
The information can either be placed in the following formats:
Degrees, minutes, seconds ex. N43 13' 27.72" W079 53' 31.92"
Degrees and minutes ex. N43 13.462' W079 53.533'
Decimal Degrees ex. N43.224367 W079.892217
Thanks. |

You're not wasting any time
Just downloaded it now, worked with it online and offline INDOORS, and it looks like the battery use on my HTC is now ~15% Great Work. And it does remember the settings. I still have the backlight issue, but I'm not complaining, just making an observation Maybe it's just my Android.
Thanks Anyway!! _________________ HTC Desire + Android 2.1 + Trekbudy 0.9.98 |
