Maybe not interesting for everyone, but in case external GPS receiver is "hidden" in pocket, car compartment etc. I had some difficulties until I understand I had to use a charger. Since internal phone "GPS data" application is able to issue such warning, I assume it's possible to grab notification from GPS device... just a thought.
