Hello
I have SE c702. This phone is kind of waterproof etc. and it has internal GPS.
I am skipper and I often use garmin GPSes for navigation.
I think, theme with screens like in garmin, magellan, lowrance handheld devices would be very useful for outdoor gps phone navigation. Not everybody uses gps in car or for geocaching. This is matter of safety to have extra gps on deck and satelite pictures from google with actual position on it.
Data like: VMG, Bearing, Course, Speed, Average speed with specified period of averaging, ETA, ETE, Time with given offset, log and big arrow pointing to destination, man over board function, audible alarms this is really must in marine devices.
Another good idea is to have course up display. is it possible in TB ?
Maybe there is possibility to include current or magnetic variation data or day and night colours.

I like TB but until it will look like other professional navigation hand-held units it will be toy only.
Forgive me my bad english

Hay mesi,

Me too: SE C702, skipper and looking for navigation device.

Thanks for the collection of sailors nautic requirements. In the last days I fiddled around with the CMS definitions and did one for my own with the goal to make it usable for sailing. Probably also things like "offline-regattas" (One crew records a track and another tries to repeat in better time.)

Actual I have the following problem: Tb somehow doen't work with slow speeds like footwalk -- or some "lets take the motor" speeds in sailing (2kn). If you find the right switch tell me.

I hope I can provide some first result in a few days. If you have a proposal for a layout, let me know.

greetings
robert

This case is specific for internal C702 agps, seems it doesn't show changes if speed is less then 4-5km. With external BT device all works as expected. Similar effects you can see with some Sirf modules in car mode.

so perhaps our need will have more weight for kruch Wink

for the low speed it on the gps component that the speed is cutted but not with TB.
for me its okay

mesi : do you know gps action replay ? the best for sailing analysis Wink
perfect to complete TB.

Interesting indeed. Which firmware version you have in C702 ?
I tested C702 with firmware R3CA033 and even with Tracker low speed doesn't work. Maybe there are some improvements in firmware.
Could you attach some logs showing low speed working ?

TB is universal GPS app, so probably it will be never so good like specialized marine devices. About maps - you are right, the best way is to have the same coordinates format like on used maps. Which kind of lat/lon grid you have drawn on your maps ? Could you show a small picture sample ?
Themes section is not probably good place to talk about such thinks Cool

Hi
I have
1204-9298
R3DA020
This application shows in my phone speed lower than 1 km/k correctly:
http://www.t-k.pl/p/artykul?i26=6175&o27=19
At the same time TB does not.
Track from my friends walk in attachment (the same phone, the same software, the same gsm company).
Paper sea charts in Europe are in mercator WGS72 or WGS84.

@mesi
Some tips for you:
1. If you would to have positon displayed like DD.MM,MMM just use setting for geocaching,
you will see coords in this format on all screens showing coords.

2. Third picture in the set below shows marine map usage in TB.

3. Speed counted from your log shows mostly 4km/h with few points near 2km/h.
Could you try to record a bit slower walk ? Smile Pls find speed profile attached.

Have I proofed something now ?
What about template for sailors ?
Sailors need: position, name of destination with position, local time, knots, ETA, VMG, speed, big arrow pointing to destination, distance to destination, averaged speed with specified period of averaging, bearing, course, log, maybe current data or magnetic variation, maybe position of sun and moon on compass and maybe times of sun/moon

for sailors you could also try or inspire, with these two apps:

Navigami (edited: link no longer exists / changed/unknown)

http://www.qcontinuum.org/compass/

Wink

but an "sailor cms" will also be great...

perhaps you would like an inversed anchor alarm ? Wink

an alarm if you are over a defined distance of the anchor ?

because actually there is already a normal alarm of a waypoint. (sound come if you are less than the defined distance)

That reverse anchor alarm would be EXCELLENT!

Only, please, Kruhc, please don't call it anything related to "anchor", please use "proximity" or "area" or something more generic. Smile

If you implement this, a big new area is opening for TB.

Security. Wink

I hope I'll talk soon more about this...

Viktor
