Tried to recreate a large atlas that I already created successfully with previous versions. Now downloading simply stops (even if the files are already cached in the TB) with memory errors:

I always start TAC using the start.cmd which sets heap up to 512 MB. |

@shen: Please provide more details: What is "large atlas" for you? (better just to send the atlas profile to me).
Additionally you do not say anything about your system: Which OS and Java VM? _________________ Mobile Atlas Creator: http://mobac.sf.net |

great work again. Is there any chance to convert an existing file based tile store into the new db format? No fancy GUI required, no meta data needed. Just a batch "upload" of the tiles.
Thanks and kind regards |

Thanks billy06. I had missed that addition.
? When i load a gpx track and see it as a green line on screen, it does not seem to paint into the tiles (or PNG). Do you happen to know if tht is a known issue - couldn't see it in the forum.
Cheers. Max. |

Hello
I am new here and I am German but I think it is preferred to speak in English here.
Anyhow I really appreaciate this tool and I am looking forward to using it alot since I can come acros some little issues.
Since I am a Magellan Triton 500 GPS user I am deeply interested in making raster image maps. Your tool can be of very great help since when we go into holidays we always like hiking or bicycling so we need new maps...
OSM and Yahoo/Google/MS Maps and Outdoor Active are there the sources to go when it has to be fast
There two tools on the market for free since a year or more which we can use to create maps from raster images for the use with our Triton GPS gadget. These can transform .MAP (OziExplorer WGS 84) PNG/JPG into the Magellan .RMP format that we can copy then into our GPS unit.
Happily your tool does support this format but I had some problems with it. I believe it is the way WGS84 is implemented or exported.
All the other Triton users seem to use instead of your tool the more complicated and less handy tool gmapmaker. This does indeed export WGS84 in a clean way. This is important so the two tools mentioned in order make RMP maps can load these image .map files.
I think it is best when you could take a look at both tools. There is one out of the US by Mikhail and one from Germany by Picco. The first can not load TCA's .map exports since there are 'spaces' after 'commas' in the .map definition missing (I believe, since when I add them then it takes those).
And I had other problems with Picco's RMP tool too so I think, first, it would be so great if you are so nice to check the .MAP export filter for us
This is how gmapmaker exports it, e.g.:

So a line like this
| Quote: |
| Point01,xy, 0, 0,in, deg,54,58.656820,N,2,48.750000,E, grid, , |
need to have spaces right after the commas like:
| Quote: |
| Point01,xy, 0, 0,in, deg, 53, 19.852379,N, 4, 13.125000,E, grid, , , ,N |
.
The same accounts for the end of the .map:
| Quote: |
MMPLL,1, 2.812500,54.977614
MMPLL,2, 15.468750,54.977614
MMPLL,3, 15.468750,50.736455
MMPLL,4, 2.812500,50.736455 |
That would be of so much help if you could change that. Of cours the greates benefit would be if you could implement a RMP export function but anyhow I think since you are at finetuning the beta...
best regards

Hi Boris,
well, in general the map format created by TAC is not wrong - therefore I would recommend to contact the author of the program which is unable to read such map files.
Anyway TrekBuddy Atlas Creator is very tolerant regarding the map file format therefore it is no problem to add some more spaces. But I additionally recommend to contact the other author.
Regarding a native support of RMP for TAC I would recommend you to persuade "Picco" to give me the (relevant) sources of the "RMP Creator" or at least the permission to use the decompiled code.
BTW: New features like new atlas formats are most suitable tracked in TAC's Feature Request Tracker at Sourceforge:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=238075&atid=1105497
Untracked requests (only mentioned in the forum) tend to be forgotten after some days but in the tracker they will survive my "mental garbage collector"

that are more than good news. I have some hope that there may be an RMP implementation. Until then I would highly appreaciate it if you could at the spaces to your export filter. Maybe it are only 16 or so adjustments of the same kind and it takes you only 10 min. I don't know since I am still more a poet than a programmer
Besides to add some weight into your "mental garbage collector" could you help me to understand why I run into certain problem.
TAC has run out of memory. ... And a hint to start it with start.cmd.
That is what I did but, mhh, increased mem to 512MB? Is there no way to increase this constraint? What can I do? Have I do belittle my area I want to atlas?

*no Layer settings: no recreate/adjustments of map tiles (My Triton has a 320x240 pixel 'TFT'. Does this matter?)

TrekBuddy Atlas Creator 1.7 preview 2
Download link removed - please use a newer version
This is a technical preview version - please test it and report back anything noteworthy (the good and and the bad things and of course errors & bugs).
Errors are preferred to be tracked in the bug tracker at Sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=238075&atid=1105494
This release uses a database for the tile store instead of plain files in the file system. Existing files from older versions are ignored.
Changelog since v1.6.1 (those in bold are new to v1.7 preview 2):
~ Tiles tore now uses database (BerkelyDB) instead of tile files in file system
+ Old tiles saved in the tile store are checked and updated when used (displayed in map view or used in an atlas). Updating is done via expiration settings - those provided by the server or otherwise user specified.
+ Atlas output directory can be specified via settings dialog
+ AndNav and OSMTracker: Tile format conversion (JPG <->PNG) implemented including color reduction
~ Docelu.pl can update it's base url like the Google map sources do
~ Pause/resume button now works while map creation (not only while download)
+ New experimental map source: Turaterkep (Hungary hiking) Uses tiles of size 512x512 (not supported by all atlas formats)
+ Multi layer map sources can defined and displayed (download not yet implemented)
+ new map: NearMap Australia (high-resolution aerial images for Australia)
! GPX addWpt: Multiple way points added by one mouse click fixed
! Start.sh/Start.cmd Java max heap setting was ignored by Java because of the position at the end of the command line
Additionally this release reduces the cache memory of the tile store database - hopefully this will prevent the common OutOfMemoryError (which I can't reproduce).
@BorisK: This release should produce map files you can directly use in the next program. _________________ Mobile Atlas Creator: http://mobac.sf.net

thanks alot!
Everything works. No more memory issues and the .map file issue I ran into is solved too!
I could now easily download a reasonably large area from the outdooractive service which hosts maps from LVA in TOP25 I think.
Your tool was set to 15000 pixel size and I could load those calibrated tiles one by one into http://www.msh-tools.com/triton.html
Really great!
best regards

Hello,
is it possible to close TrekBuddy Atlas Creator in the middle of a atlas-download and restart it later without loss of already downloaded maps?
I started yesterday morning to download an atlas of "Open Streetmap Mapnik" for germany with:
Zoom Levels:
11, 13, 15
Layer settings:
480 x 360
PNG 16 colors (4bit) (with jai-1_1_3)
and till yet it is only:
Percent done: 56% (44 of 87 done),
Time remaining: 1661 minutes (growing, not decreasing)
Total downlod size: 3,04 GB
Average download speed: 77kiBit / Second (decreasing slowly)
Active Downloads: 4
Download errors: 0 / 0
Total download time: 2159 minutes
My machine has become slow with this download. I have the impression, that the TBAC stucks a bit.
Now i want to stop it, close the creator completely and restart again when i don't use my computer. Is that possible?
Thank you,
frnc |

| Atlas-download continuity would be useful for large atlases. Adjustable "download" bit could be added to each map, after finishing of the map this bit is reset. Resulting partial atlases is not difficult to merge. |

So this is a wish, but not yet implemented, i guess? |
