Some time ago, I wrote a Windows program to convert map calibration files from one format to another. I've used it myself quite a lot, preparing maps for my travels (e.g. converting the .map file from GMAPMAKER to a .jpr for Memory-map). I used to use the Map Calibrator from GPSTUNER but that has now gone - so I added calibration to my program. Two other functions I've not seen elsewhere are being able to re-size or crop a calibrated map whilst automatically making a calibarion file for the new size. And it will output a calibrated map as Trekbuddy 'tiles'.

It read and writes .map, .jpr, .tfw , .gmi, .cal, .gux, .mcd with various grids and accepts the Datums file from GPSU for a comprehensive set. Calibrations are always output as Latitude/Longitude WGS84. Map images can be .png, .jpg, .tif, .gif or .bmp but are always written as 8-bit .png. Any suggestions for additional functionality will be considered. The program is freeware.

Download from www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping. Please leave any feedback on this thread.

so will your app convert memorymap .qct file into tiles for trekbuddy? i do this manualy at the moment by exporting image in memorymap noting the corner coords, cutting the image in tbmapper and writing the .map file saving each area in 4 zoom levels , this is labour intensive but gives me the results i need

The tool won't read the .qct directly (.qct's are encrypted) but once you've exported the image you will only need to enter the corners once (and 2 diagonal corners will do) and it will produce sets of tiles at varying scale - e.g 50% and 25%. If you are using MM in the UK then you can calibrate using the OS grid (which will be converted to Lat/Long)

have tryed out your app and encountered a few problems when entering points - error invalid point. got around this by loading calibration file then .bmp image . main problem the tiles are outputted in like a negative colour , i have tryed changing the input file from 24 depth to 16 depth .bmp png files and jpeg files but they are all outputted the same , any idears why this is? what type of input file formats do you use? apart from this the app works very well

I'm using the FreeImage library so it will load tif, jpg, png, bmp, gif . If you View/Calibrated Map are the colours right? can you p.m. me one of the 'negative' tiles, please? If you rescale an image is that saved in the correct colours?

I don't understand this! Black is being converted to white but everything else preserved. Give me a day or two to work on it...

FYI The qct format isn't encrypted, just encoded in a proprietary format which obfuscates the raster data. There is a reverse-engineered qct specification at http://www.etheus.net/Quick_Chart_File_Format (which includes detail on how the calibration is stored), and there are examples of python and C++ qct decoder code (i.e. so you can read the files) on emule: search for qct format.

Sorry not to progress this faster - I've been dealing with a family crisis.

I've put a test version of the program (only) at http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/mapc2mapc105a.exe which may solve the 'negative tiles' problem. If that doesn't work, please PM me the original image.

Put this into the directory where you installed the package. Let me know if it is any different - it may be a bit slower because of the additional image handling.

As for .qct - that looks like a job for a wet weekend......
