Hi Kruch,

I tested beta 0.9.84 on my BB Bold 9000 a couple of days for geocaching. Since v84 the compass screen often hangs. This means the red (or blue) arrow is constantly facing up (north) and the direction does not lead you in the right direction. All values (distance, heading, coordinates etc.) are updates correctly. This may not happen directly after TB is started and used, but after a while. Often only a restart of TB fixes this.
This never happened before in v83. I went go back to v83.

this is not a bug, this is a feature! Press 5, fire or something

Really? I tried some keys (space and 5 for sure), but nothing happened. Is this described somewhere?

here

0984-20090312.zip (generic version)
This build also contains:
- UIQ back key fix
- larger max map scrolling step
- "north-locking" on compass screen (press key 5 / FIRE)
- sliding compass feature in CMS (willbe demonstrated in the announced example too)
- various changes here and there (input handling etc)

Shame on me ... I didn't notice it.

Installed v84 again ... it's the space key which switches between normal and north orientation on my BB Bold.

Because I often hit space to switch of the screensaver (meaning switch on backlight again) or even hit space to prevent the device from switching the backlight off, I accidently switched this new feature on.

It would be great if either another key could be used ("n" might be a good choice) OR if the arrow gets another color in north orientation (or some other visual warning) to warn you that this feature is switched on OR if this feature can be configured to be always of in TB settings so that one cannot accidently switch this on. Am I asking too much? Smile

Thanks
Stefan

i second this as i often use the compass screen for finding geocaches. i've been using tb before beta 0.9.84 and i also sometimes hit the space key to turn the display on even if it's already on which results in switching compass mode which is annoying. perhaps the UP ARROW (2 on my bold) is the better choice as the compass needle also is showing up when north orientated Smile

For those of you who would prefer pressing "5" I rewrote the keyboard mapping, so the SPACE key does not activate north locking anymore.

Also see http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=25695#25695 and the chapter about keyboard mapping for full keyboard BB devices in http://wiki.trekbuddy.net/index.php/Customization

hi kruch

any news on the visual warning? even that i've remapped it the way shen described, i sometimes hit 5 or trackball button unwanded but i do not always registrate the north locking, which leads me wrong Smile

some ideas for visual warning if north locked:

change bg color
change arrow color
remove lower part of compass needle or the whole needle because everybody knows that north is on top if locked Smile
add bold red colored text "north locked"
