Hi folks.

I've come up with a script that seems to create pretty good (at least I think all the issues have been fixed) tar file maps of a selected area from the OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/).

The area is selected using my static tile browser (http://osm.bandnet.org/browse/). Once you've got the area you want a map of, enter the zoom level in the 'create trekbuddy map' box (i'd suggest 15 for showing street level, around 13 for villages, 11 for towns using mapnik layer) then click the 'create' button.

After a short delay while tiles are downloaded, it'll give you a link to the tar file. Download this, save to your phone and open in TrekBuddy.

I'm now intending to tidy the code, give it a license and post it to SVN somewhere, if not the OSM svn.

I hope this tool turns out to be remotely useful.

Remember, if your area isn't covered, visit www.openstreetmap.org and start adding it!

Have fun!

Mr Higgy.

I used this tool and it creates tar files with empty set file and folder, only the .gmi file is present. the generated files are unusable.

I had another problem. When I push "Create" button..
->>
Not Found
The requested URL /osm-svn/trekbuddy/tarmaker/convert.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Mr Higgy,

I think your out of disk space as all I get (and have for the last 2 weeks is the same as the above posts !!)

[code]Your TrekBuddy map file is complete and is now ready for download here (
Warning: filesize() [function.filesize]: stat failed for out/tb-s0-10-z10-x505-y332.tar in /home/.esmond/osmapng/osm.bandnet.org/trekbuddy/tarmaker/convert.php on line 242

If you right click on the page and select 'view source' you can see the error creating the directories and files on your server:

Now there doesn't seem to even be a preview of the area. I was also using this one, but I guess I have to look for alternatives. (And have been trying googleak out, but it also has problems) Does anyone have any other suggestions?

You have to use the mapnik layer, due to the recent changes in t@h the default layer doesn't work anymore...
Alternatives would be great of course Wink

Hi, it would be great if the code of the application would be available!
It is a really nice (and especially, working) one.
