Just a FYI...
USGS maps are available for electronic download as PDFs. I've create a utility to extract them to PNG's that are 5483 x 6929 (identical resolution as the PDFs).

I am in the process of creating Atlas files, with the top layer being 4:1 for the 7.5 minute pdfs. I also intend a utility to merge these with a 30 minute pdf (16 of the 7.5 minute pdf), Thus we have 3 layers, each with 4:1 ratios.

You just download the PDF file, pick the PDF file with the tool, enter the top left corner location, pick 7.5 min or 30 min, and a map or atlas tar is written.

Stay tune -- hopefully it will be available by the end of this week.

I just found out about the USGS pdf files. I would love to get them into a format suitable for ozi explorer. I am very excited about your project.

There is also a possibility to use DRG import in Ozi. You can download USGS' tiffs and import them into Ozi Explorer (calibration data are in tfw file, should be downloaded along with the tiff or you can you generate one with a Geo Tiff Examiner). Just discovered this. Wink
